Lead Us Into Temptation

Sins are seen as inherently evil. The emotional and sometimes physical state of being is often judged within this context. One must stay within a certain frame of behavior, and conform to other’s ideas of what they expect from society. I believe that moral acceptability should not be defined by personal feelings or states of being, but by actions and how we interact with those around us. When we begin to judge each other on the basis of how we express emotion, and even having those feelings in the first place, we find ourselves ridding ourselves of the very core elements of what makes us human, and any individuality and personality that comes with it. I chose to use the Seven Sins to depict this idea in order to point out the sterilization of humanity, and how pieces of our personality can be picked apart just for existing. I want to depict these sins with a sense of dignity, as to show that blanket statements of each of these concepts being “wrong” in any way are pointless, due to the complexity of the human condition. Each of these “sins” are not solely “evil,” but can live within a neutral, or even positive framework if seen in a different way than often expected.
